CERT - a network of citizens who are trained by emergency service professionals to respond to local disaster situations

Training includes disaster preparedness, fire suppression, medical triage and head-to-toe assessment, first-aid, light search and rescue, team organization, disaster psychology, terrorism, and final training exercise in which participants put out fires, rescue people and treat victims.

Community Band

Hugh Whittaker has started the Owensboro Community Band. Whittaker said, "Owensboro is rich with musicians." Whittaker plays trumpet and baritone with the Newburgh, IN community band and with the "Little Old Dam Band". "No audition is required. We're just looking for people who like to play music."
